Sangiovese: one to love
The classic of Tuscany and the soul of Chianti — and how to taste the effect of ageing in two glasses.
The classic of Tuscany, Italy concentrated in a bottle — that’s Chianti and Sangiovese, the benchmark grape behind it.

Sangiovese is grown all over the world, and the place always shapes the taste. But once you love this grape, you’ll recognise it in almost any style.
So what is it like?
Wines with 70–100% Sangiovese have bright acidity, aromas of cherry and violet, and a lively, rich taste. The more Sangiovese, the more expressive the wine.
Taste it yourself
Come to Vintage and ask for two glasses — in this order:
- Chianti Priore — one year in oak;
- Chianti Riserva Ser Mariotto — two years of ageing.
You’ll feel the character of Sangiovese and how oak softens it into a velvety texture.
We love Chianti and often suggest it as the first step into dry Italian wines.
